Chicago Bears: NFL analyst reveals team’s best move of the 2026 NFL off-season

The Chicago Bears have had a very busy off-season. In addition to needing to find a new starting center (Drew Dalman suddenly and surprisingly retired), they have had to completely re-stock their secondary. Their entire safety room left in free agency, which led Chicago to focus heavily on that position in the 2026 NFL Draft and on the open market.

Additionally, the Bears made the decision to trade veteran wide receiver DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. This decision came after his role in the offense diminished considerably in 2025.

One NFL analyst believes it was the best move they made this off-season.

Why the Chicago Bears trading DJ Moore was their best off-season move

According to Mike Sando of The Athletic, trading Moore to the Bills was Chicago’s best move of the off-season:

“Moore’s per-game receiving yardage peaked at a career-best 80.2 in 2023, his first year with Chicago. That fell to 56.8 the next season and to a career-low 40.1 under new coach Ben Johnson last season. It was clear where Moore was trending in Chicago after signing a four-year, $110 million extension in 2024. Getting second-round value from Buffalo in return seemed strong.”

As one can see, the part about the trade that Sando especially liked was the fact that the Bears were able to get a second round draft pick for him. That, indeed, is great value for a wide receiver that saw his role on the offense decline.

What also makes it a great move for Chicago, though, is the fact that it opens up more opportunities for their younger wide receivers and tight ends. Last year, Colston Loveland led the team in every receiving category and could very well do so again.

But Luther Burden and Rome Odunze, too, will get more chances with Moore out of the picture, and could make even bigger names for themselves in Ben Johnson’s offense.
