The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LIV but then lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the following year's championship contest. Kansas City failed to clinch three consecutive Super Bowl Sunday trips this past winter, however, when they fell to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.
Nevertheless, the Chiefs learned during Thursday's official NFL schedule release that they'll make history this fall with a specifically somewhat difficult run of games. As Michael David Smith explained for Pro Football Talk, the Elias Sports Bureau reports that Kansas City will become the first team ever to begin a campaign with eight straight matchups against clubs that posted winning records the previous year.
(2021 records listed in parentheses)
The Chiefs open the season in Week 1 at the Arizona Cardinals (11-6) and then have a quick turnaround, as they'll host the Los Angeles Chargers (9-8) the following Thursday night.
In Week 3, the Chiefs will travel to play at the Indianapolis Colts (9-8). They'll then remain on the road to take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (13-4) in Week 4.
Week 5 sees Kansas City welcome the rival Las Vegas Raiders (10-7) to town. The next week, Patrick Mahomes will host his good buddy Josh Allen and Allen's Buffalo Bills (11-6).
Kansas City heads West to face the San Francisco 49ers (10-7) and whoever their starting quarterback will be in Week 7. The Chiefs will then enjoy their bye before they host the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 (12-5).
This remarkable streak ends when Kansas City plays against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Arrowhead Stadium on Nov. 13.
