Kenneth Walker III couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Kansas City Chiefs debut, helping the team improve to 5-0 on the 2026 NFL season after a 22-6 win over Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6. Now, the Chiefs will head West in Week 7 to face Sam Darnold and Walker’s former team, the Seattle Seahawks.

Walker had found success during his four-year stint with the Seahawks, rushing for over 1,000 yards in two different seasons, including 2025. He also helped Seattle win last season’s Super Bowl over the New England Patriots, winning Super Bowl MVP in the process. But despite his success with the team, the Seahawks did not offer Walker a new contract over the offseason.

“Walker’s postseason performance put him in such high demand that he effectively priced himself out of Seattle, which didn’t make a contract offer ahead of free agency, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly about the matter,” The Athletic wrote.

But the Chiefs took a chance on Walker, signing him to a three-year, $43.05 million deal. He has arguably been Kansas City’s best player through five games, even topping Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The running back has recorded 106 carries for a league-leading 665 yards and six touchdowns. And the Chiefs have shown tons of faith in their new running back, even willing to part ways with another.

Nate Carter began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2025, joining the Atlanta Falcons ahead of his rookie year. But before the 2026 season, Carter was waived by the Falcons as part of their final roster cuts, only to be picked up by the Chiefs at the beginning of September, joining the team’s practice squad.

However, Carter’s tenure didn’t last too long, as Kansas City announced they had waived the running back on Wednesday, not playing a single game in red and gold.

“We have terminated the Practice Squad contract of RB Nate Carter,” the Chiefs wrote on X.

Walker and the Chiefs will take on the Seahawks in Week 7’s edition of “Sunday Night Football” at 8:20 p.m. ET.
