Chiefs can finally grant Jaylon Moore a wish 49ers couldn't

The Kansas City Chiefs need their new-look offensive line to step up and help Patrick Mahomes in pass-protection. While one game on the season isn't a large sample size, to say that Chiefs fans are over Jawaan Taylor starting at right tackle is an understatement.

Between the less-than-stellar performance and penalty flag after penalty flag, Taylor's entire Chiefs career has been underwhelming. Before the Chiefs had drafted Josh Simmons with their late first-round pick, the plan on their o-line this year had been to continue having Taylor at right tackle and slotting Jaylon Moore in at left tackle.

Moore had impressed while filling in for the injured Trent Williams in San Francisco during the first four years of his career, so this was a solid move for the Chiefs to make. Moore spent some time at right tackle while Taylor was out over the summer and it was something that seemed to work for the team.

Well, when Week 1 got underway, Simmons was at left tackle while the penalty machine himself was at right tackle. How much longer of a leash will Taylor get? Why not try Moore out at right tackle and see if there's anything there?

Time for the Chiefs to give Jaylon Moore a try at right tackle

Moore spent the first four years of his career with the 49ers and was a backup that entire time. When he did play, he looked pretty serviceable, and that's what led Kansas City to signing him to a two-year deal worth $30 million. Considering we all know that Taylor's time with the Chiefs will be ending as soon as the 2025 season ends, why not just end that era and put Moore in as a starter?

The Chiefs obviously felt confident that Moore could help them on the o-line and while he's valuable depth to have, if he can help this team in ways Taylor can't, then why not roll with it? Perhaps it'd be different if Taylor was going to be a part of this team's future plans but that's not the timeline we're living in.

Maybe it's still too early to "give up" on Jawaan Taylor at right tackle but considering that we've already watched him struggle at right tackle and get flagged all the time for two years now, the Chiefs should know what to expect. Time to see Jaylon Moore can do.
