Since stepping on the football field in Ames, Iowa, former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy has been a popular name to poke fun at.
Despite proving doubters wrong countless times throughout his collegiate and professional career, Purdy continues to take heat for his play, with the latest critic being NBC’s Chris Simms.
Simms trashed Purdy in a recent episode of Chris Simms Unbuttoned , advocating for the San Francisco 49ers to consider moving on from the Arizona native amid contract disputes.

“In the league, nobody looks at Brock Purdy as a top-10 quarterback in football. Nobody. Yeah with Shanahan as his OC and the 49er all star team around him the last few years, yeah he can look pretty good. He can look top-10ish. But we just saw last… pic.twitter.com/CpqjYQVnuN
“In the league, nobody looks at Brock Purdy as a top-10 quarterback in football,” Simms said. “Nobody. Yeah, with Shanahan as his OC and the 49er all-star team around him the last few years, he can look pretty good. He can look top-10ish.”
“But we just saw last year when the 49er all-star team got injured, they went 6 and 11, and we’re talking about paying him over 50 million dollars a year?” Simms asked. “It’s a tough situation, and I would not want to see them pay over 45 million dollars a year if I were running the team.”
Simms isn’t the only one to voice his concern about Brock Purdy’s contract, but he is the latest, and is catching some heat for it. That said, regardless of the reason behind his success, Purdy has found a way to take his team to the Super Bowl and play some good football along the way.
He enters Year Four in the NFL with more than 9,500 passing yards, 60 touchdowns, and 30 wins (four in the postseason) under his belt. Will the two parties get a contract done and continue their partnership? Only time will tell for one of the NFL’s most disrespected superstars.
