With the first wave of free agency just about wrapped up, most of the high impact players have signed already.
This means that the draft and the trade market are the only two real viable options for NFL teams looking to make significant upgrades.
Some teams engage in trade talks to rebuild, clear cap space, or just out of sheer necessity, and the Indianapolis Colts fall directly into the last bucket.
With the NFL Draft less than a month away, and the Colts’ wide receiver room being jam packed, rumors have been swirling about the team trading away one specific member of the group.
While the team has given no indication that they’re willing to part with any of their receivers, the former second rounder is in a contract year, and with the current talent and depth at the position, it’s unlikely the Colts would want to give Pierce a payday.
Josh Downs, Adonai Mitchell, and Michael Pittman Jr. headline a strong receiver room that doesn’t have the space for an unproven, big money maker.
Pierce has made a name for himself as one of the NFL’s scariest deep threats, but a lack of consistent quarterback play has halted his development, leaving his true potential still in question.
If the Colts picked up the phone and started fielding calls for the former Cincinnati receiver, there’s no doubt teams would be lining up to acquire a 24-year-old playmaker who has shown flashes of being a reliable No. 1 or No. 2 target.
As of now, Pierce isn’t on the trade block, but a strong enough offer from a team starving for a wide receiver could convince Indianapolis to part ways with their young burner.
