Cowboys Issue Warning About Dangerous Cheerleaders Scam

FRISCO - During a disappointing season that launched with Jerry Jones promising to be "All in!", some critics have accused the Dallas Cowboys of being frauds. But now there's a real-world scam taking the exploitation to a new low.

Attempting to scam Cowboys fans out of their private information and/or money during the Holidays, bad actors are apparently  running a scheme across both telephone and social media platforms. The fraudsters initiate contact with unsuspecting victims, posing as representatives of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and promising something that doesn't actually exist:

"Membership" into the Cheerleaders' organization.

The team and Cheerleaders released a statement this week addressing the dangerous scam:

"Unfortunately, we have been made aware of recent scams that have been contacting our fans requesting personal and financial information. We would like to make it clear – The Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will NOT initiate contact with any person via text message, email, social media, or phone to request personal or financial information."

Part of the scam is also promising "members" a chance to receiver a personal appearance from one of the cheer squad's members.

"Additionally, there is no membership with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders," the team said. "If you would like for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to appear at your event, you can request an appearance at https://dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/appearances/. There is no other way to request a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader appearance.

"If someone is contacting you via social media claiming to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader trying to set up an appearance and/or asking for payment directly, this is not legitimate. Please contact local law enforcement or the FTC (at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/assistant) to report the incident."

Good for the Cowboys organization for doing something that its team has been spotty in doing this season: Playing aggressive defense.
