Davante Adams Gets Very Honest About His Mindset With The Rams

Davante Adams is ready for another clean slate with the Los Angeles Rams.

The All-Pro receiver joined his fourth different team in five years after the New York Jets released him. Adams replaces Cooper Kupp in a Rams organization that's made two straight playoff appearances.

Following murky stints with the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, Adams sees brighter beginnings in L.A.

"This is like true optimism versus just hoping," Adams told The Athletic's Michael Silver. "Obviously, knowing what I know about the management there, the players, the team success they've had in recent years and just over time … those are usually the type of teams that have stressed success. The most important thing was (joining) a good, winning team."

After eight seasons in Green Bay, Adams reunited with former Fresno State teammate Derek Carr in Vegas. He tallied 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2022, but the Raiders moved on from Carr that offseason.

Adams called Carr's release the "first kind of confused moment" he had with the organization. He tried to stay hopeful as they went 8-9 in 2023, but he realized he needed a change.

"Once we got to (2024), it was just a lot of the same," Adams said. "And it was just clear to me that we weren't being set up to be put in a situation where we could really go and win at a convincing rate. And it was time for me to go."

The Raiders sent Adams to the Jets, where he'd again align with former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He tallied 854 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games, but the Jets parted ways with both veterans after a 5-12 campaign.

Adams said he was "shocked" when Rodgers told him the details of his final meeting with Jets officials, which the quarterback recently shared on The Pat McAfee Show. The wide receiver declared that there was "no chance" he would return after hearing how they treated Rodgers.

Adams believes he found a more stable situation playing for Rams head coach Sean McVay. He considered an NFC West rival, but the San Francisco 49ers only offered a "wholesale" price.

Considering his path to L.A., Adams looks to confirm that he wasn't the source of past drama.

"Well, first I've got to make sure it's not me," Adams said. "So, we're going to get over there and see. If it gets dysfunctional, it means that I was the one making those organizations dysfunctional."
