Davante Adams Mentoring Rams Rookie CJ Daniels

The Los Angeles Rams didn’t make many additions to their offense during the offseason, but traded up to select wide receiver CJ Daniels out of the University of Miami in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Daniels is a sure-handed wideout who had the lowest drop rate and second-highest contested catch rate over the past two NCAA seasons.

The 24-year-old has already made a strong impression in training camp and seems determined to be an impact player for the Rams this season.

Earlier this offseason, Daniels asked veteran wide receiver Davante Adams for advice on how he can improve as a player, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“He gave me a few tips as far as just making plays on the ball, be who I am, go out there with the utmost confidence because I’ve been doing it my whole life,” Daniels said. “It’s just the nerves I think in OTAs getting up out of me, knowing the system, learning the system, and being confident through that.”

Soliciting advice is a daily thing for Daniels, not exclusive to just that pre-summer break conversation.

“He is definitely a great mentor,” Daniels said. “Each and every day, I ask him questions on the small things, the details, and things he thinks I can get better at.”

Adams is one of the best wide receivers of his generation, so Daniels definitely approached the right player for advice. Adams always shows a willingness to share knowledge with his fellow players, which is why he is so beloved by his Rams teammates. And he is impressed with how the rookie is heeding his advice:

“I’m proud of him,” Adams said after Sunday’s jog-through practice at Rams Training Camp presented by CommunityAmerica Credit Union at LMU. “We had a conversation right before we broke for the five-week break. He came to me and asked what I thought he needed to work on. We talked about a couple of small things. I saw a lot of good stuff from him during the offseason program and he came back and did exactly those things. His play speed, making plays on the football, catching the ball.”

As for Daniels, he is looking to carve out a role on the Rams offense this year and could potentially get reps as the team’s No. 3 wide receiver behind Puka Nacua and Adams.

Adams was the subject of trade rumors during the offseason when the Rams flirted with the idea of adding A.J. Brown prior to his trade to the New England Patriots.

Adams understands the nature of the business, so he doesn’t have any ill will toward the Rams for considering a potential deal and is happy to still be with the team.

“I’m a teenager in this league now, so, I mean, you got to understand there’s certain things that each team, you know, does or has to do in order to — just from top to bottom — it’s just the way that this business goes,” Adams said during training camp.

“You gotta evaluate, you gotta look at certain things and ultimately I’m still a Ram and I’m here and happy to be here. That’s all that matters right now. I know my teammates are excited to have him here and just worried about going out and having a good training camp and seeing where the year goes.”
