David Bailey’s latest dominant practice comes with injury scare

The New York Jets made it their mission in the offseason to get better on defense, and so far in training camp, it looks like they made the right moves. One player who recently had a good day of practice was rookie David Bailey, but it came with an injury scare after he was seen favoring his left ankle, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

“Afterward, coach Aaron Glenn confirmed it was an ankle injury, adding that Bailey likely will be listed as day-to-day,” Cimini wrote. “He was able to jog back to the sideline after being examined in the medical tent.

“Bailey, drafted No. 2 overall, continued his strong camp, recording one sack and at least two pressures, unofficially. He probably should’ve had another sack, but the officials let the play continue.”

It seems like the injury wasn’t that serious, but they should know more in the coming days.

Bailey is already getting the hype in preseason, and people think he could be a real Rookie of the Year candidate.

“There are some guys you see, and they’re different. The guy who I’ll always remember is Sheldon Richardson. You saw him, and he was different. Jamal Adams was different right away. Sauce (Gardner) and Garrett (Wilson) were different. There are guys who come in as rookies, and you see it, like, ‘Yeah, this guy.’ I put Bailey in that category,” Brian Costello of the New York Post wrote.

If the Jets can turn around what they did last season on defense and make strides this time around, and Bailey is a major part of it, there’s a chance he could be in the conversation.

The first thing is to hope that he can continue to practice at a high level despite the injury that he may have suffered.
