The Denver Broncos squeezed out a win against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, but it was far from pretty. Quarterback Bo Nix had a rough start to his sophomore season, throwing for just 176 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble, leading to four turnovers for the offense. Head coach Sean Payton needs to get Nix back on track, and fast. The running game, led by J.K. Dobbins, showed flashes of life but will face a tough test against the Colts’ front seven.
The real story for Denver is its elite defense. They were absolutely dominant against the Titans, allowing only 133 total yards and sacking the quarterback six times. Led by stars like Nik Bonitto, Zach Allen, and lockdown cornerback Pat Surtain II, this unit can single-handedly win games. If the Broncos’ offense can just avoid costly mistakes and put a few points on the board, the defense is more than capable of shutting down the opposition and securing a crucial road victory.
The Indianapolis Colts, on the other hand, looked unstoppable in their 33-8 dismantling of the Miami Dolphins. Quarterback Daniel Jones was sharp and efficient, and the offense clicked on all cylinders. Now, they face a completely different challenge in the Broncos’ top-tier defense. Can Jones maintain his composure against a relentless pass rush and a secondary that gives up nothing easily?
The Colts’ defense also deserves a ton of credit for their Week 1 performance, holding the Dolphins to just one score. However, they are dealing with some key injuries in the secondary, with Charvarius Ward and Jaylon Jones both nursing injuries. This could be a vulnerability that Nix and the Broncos look to exploit. If the Colts’ offense can replicate its Week 1 success and the defense can hold its own despite the injuries, they have a great shot at pulling off the upset at home.
One major sports talk show host posted on X during the second quarter of the first game that the Colts looked awesome and are on their way to the Super Bowl. Of course, it was posted by Pat McAfee from his box at the Colts game, and the post was dripping with sarcasm. They may not be that good, but it seems like Jones wants to take advantage of this opportunity and is ready to shine. And, since this will be a close game, they might not win, but the spread might be enough to bring some money home.
