Houston Texans star cornerback Derek Stingley left a game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday after a hard hit on a catch by Davante Adams. He appeared to be holding his left hip.
Stingley was immediately escorted to the team’s blue injury tent on the sideline to be further evaluated. He was able to walk there on his own power.
But it’ll be interesting to see if there are any lingering effects for the star corner. He initially made the tackle on Adams from behind but seemed to bend uncomfortably at the hips as another player laid a big hit on Adams’ upper body. You can view the hit below.

UPDATE: Stingley returned to action on the subsequent two series for the Texans.
Derek Stingley is a hugely important piece for the Texans. He’s a lockdown cornerback and is coming off a first-team All-Pro season in 2024. He also made the Pro Bowl.
A former first-round draft pick of the Texans in 2022, taken with the No. 3 overall pick, Stingley has worked his way into form for the franchise. He started in nine games as a rookie and 11 games in 2023 as a second-year pro before ultimately playing and starting in all 17 last season.
He has logged 136 tackles, 5.0 tackles for a loss, 11 interceptions and 36 passes defended. Derek Stingley has been quite productive for a defensive back.
Derek Stingley isn’t the only former first-round pick dealing with an injury on the opening weekend of the NFL action. Former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers also had an injury scare in his game this afternoon.
Bowers came out of the season-opening win this afternoon with an apparent injury to his knee. However, postgame, the Raiders’ tight end says he’s alright.
Per Tom Pelissero at the NFL Network, who spoke with him afterward in New England, Bowers says he was fine. That’s after taking a hit to the knee in the victory over the Patriots on Sunday.
“Just talked to #Raiders TE Brock Bowers and he says he’s fine,” Pelissero tweeted out this afternoon. “Took a little hit on the knee, came out to get checked out. No concerns moving forward.”
On3’s Sam Gillenwater also contributed to this report.
