Dez Bryant sees his chance and takes it to troll former Cowboys HC Jason Garrett in the aftermath of Zack Martin's retirement

In the aftermath of Zack Martin's retirement from the football field, fans and media members have pointed out the long list of Dallas Cowboys legends that have come and gone through The Star with no Super Bowl ring to show for it.

Last night, Micah Parsons boldly claimed the list was coming to an end and I wrote about how right now, there's little players can do or say to make fans buy in. It's the front office changing its ways that could inspire hope. A big chance to do so will be this year's free agency, for which the Cowboys could find ways to near $100 million in available salary cap space.

To others though, the responsibility for the growing list of non-champions has a little bit more to do with coaches.

You can seemingly count former wide receiver Dez Bryant among those, as he saw his chance and took it to troll Jason Garrett in the aftermath of Martin's retirement news. On Thursday evening, Bryant shared a post listing several franchise legends with a GIF of Garrett smiling at a camera. Bryant posted it with a laughing emoji.

For a long time now, Bryant has been publicly critical of Garrett. In 2018, he even accused the coach of having "Garrett Guys" on the team, blaming him for his release form the Cowboys.

"I'll say this right here: I believe that 'Garrett guys' [are to blame], I would say that," Bryant told NFL Network's Jane Slater back then. "I won't put no names out, but they know, and I want them to know I know."

None of that matters much nowadays but the Cowboys wide receiver clearly perceives Garrett as the main reason why the team wasted the careers of many promising players. To his point, the former head coach oversaw the majority of their careers.

In 2025 and beyond, Brian Schottenheimer will take center stage as he tries to become the first Cowboys head coach to win a Super Bowl since 1996. It seems to be the biggest hurdle he has to clear is the front office, though. We'll see what team they build for him.
