Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL season, guiding his club to a 4-1 record.
ESPN NFL insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano addressed on Wednesday whether league evaluators believe that Jones has resurrected his career while playing under Colts head coach Shane Steichen.
"Most people I talk to believe Jones can continue to succeed in Shane Steichen's system if he stays healthy," Graziano shared. "He had turnover problems early in his career, but less so in later seasons with the Giants. And with RB Jonathan Taylor running the way he's running, a strong offensive line in front of him and Jones' own ability to create plays with his legs, there seems to be a belief that the infrastructure around Jones is solid enough to sustain — again, assuming he stays healthy."
Jones had a concerning injury history when he signed a one-year contract with the Colts in March. He has thus far stayed healthy and played his best football since guiding the 2022 Giants to a playoff berth and a road postseason win.
According to Pro Football Reference, Jones heads into Week 6 leading the NFL among qualified players with a 57.8 percent passing success rate. He's sixth with an 80.8 adjusted QBR, eighth with a 105.1 passer rating and third with 1,290 yards through the air. Over five games, he tossed six touchdown passes and only two interceptions.
Meanwhile, Taylor leads the league with 94 carries, 480 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
"In New York, Jones was plagued by overthinking," Fowler said about Jones' Giants tenure that ran from 2019 through last November. "He's playing more freely now. The Colts have helped him improve his footwork. And let's be honest, he's playing behind one of the best offensive line-tailback combinations in the league. That's a huge aid to any quarterback."
Jones will look to remain hot (and healthy) when the Colts host the Arizona Cardinals (2-3) on Sunday. As of Wednesday morning, ESPN BET had the Colts as 6.5-point favorites.
