Dolphins Desperate to Dodge 0-6 Disaster Against Jets

The Miami Dolphins haven’t faced an AFC East opponent this season. That changes Sunday — and with their season already on the brink, there’s little room for another stumble.

Miami travels to New Jersey to take on the New York Jets, beginning a stretch in which four of the Dolphins’ next six games will come against division rivals.

The Dolphins are 0-5 and already facing questions about whether they could become the first team in NFL history to finish 0-17 since the league expanded to a 17-game schedule in 2021. If Miami is going to finally get a win, the Jets might be its best chance.

The Dolphins swept the Jets last season, while Jets coach Aaron Glenn is 0-7 against AFC East opponents.

“They drafted good talent,” Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said about the Jets. “Obviously on offense, they got two really good running backs. Garrett Wilson, who’s outstanding. I was with Garrett at Ohio State for his freshman year, so I have a lot of respect for him and all the things that he’s been able to do throughout his career. Geno, they got a veteran quarterback who has played some really good football, played against him two years ago when I was in Green Bay and he was in Seattle.

“Frank Reich is the offensive coordinator, has been doing this for a really long time, so there’s a ton of respect for him there. So there’s familiarity with the coaches. There’s a lot of mutual respect for those guys. They’ve done a nice job in the draft and free agency bringing in some talented players and they’ve improved. They’ve improved from last year. I think they’ve improved from week-to-week, and it will be a good challenge.”

Miami swept the Jets in both meetings during the 2025 season

The Jets have been uneven to start the season, sitting at 2-4. They lost their latest game on the road to the New England Patriots, 26-19.

For the Dolphins, though, Sunday is about more than beating a division rival. After five straight losses, it’s about proving they can finally finish one.

At 0-5, the clock is already ticking. Another loss to the Jets could make the 0-17 question feel much less hypothetical.
