Dolphins Have Interest in FA WR Jauan Jennings
The Miami Dolphins selected three wide receivers in this past weekend’s NFL Draft, but they may not be done adding to the receiver room.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have been interested in Jauan Jennings since free agency began in March.
Per Jackson, “In fact, according to a source, the Dolphins — since the start of free agency — have shown interest in 49ers free agent receiver Jauan Jennings. But they don’t have the money to meet his contractual wishes, and Sullivan has said Miami isn’t going to spend big in free agency after June 1.
Miami appreciates Jennings’ size (6-3) and skills; he had 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games and 10 starts in 2024, then had 55 catches for 643 yards and 9 TDs in 15 starts in 2025.”
Jennings will be 29 in July and was a 7th-round pick of the 49ers in 2020. He has had a productive NFL career the past two seasons, where he has come on the scene.
Last offseason, Jennings requested a trade because he was hoping for a new contract. 49ers GM John Lynch said he wouldn’t trade Jennings, but they did restructure his contract to give him more money for the 2025 season through playtime incentives that were easy to reach.
2024 was his breakout season, where Jennings played 15 games and started 10. He had 113 targets, 77 receptions, and 975 yards with 6 touchdowns.
In 2025, Jennings played and started in 15 games; he had 90 targets, 55 receptions, for 643 yards and 9 touchdowns.
He is 6’3 and has become one of the more reliable wide receivers in the NFL over the past two seasons.
Miami currently has little to no salary cap space (only $1.8 million), but after June 1st, they will have an additional $20 million in cap space.
A chunk of that will be used to sign the 13 draft picks Miami selected this weekend, but there should be some money left over to play with, roughly $12 million or so after signing the draft class
That $12 million can be carried over to next season, where Miami currently has $148 million of cap space in March of 2027.
The question is, will new Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan want to pay what it may cost to sign Jennings and use some or most of that $12 million or so that will be available to him?
It seems unlikely based on what Sullivan has said recently when asked about the cap space he will have come post-June 1st, but you never know.
The Dolphins’ current WR room is Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell, Malik Washington, Tahj Washington, Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell (who may miss some or all of the 2026 season), Theo Wease, Kevin Coleman Jr., AJ Henning, and Terrace Marshall.
Not exactly a top-of-the-line group, so the addition of Jennings would give it a major boost.
Jennings isn’t the only available WR on the open market Miami may consider, and most of the others should come cheaper than Jennings.
Deebo Samuel has ties to new Dolphins OC Bobby Slowik, and he is a possibility.
Other names are Tyler Lockett, Curtis Samuel, Stefon Diggs, Brandin Cooks, Noah Brown, Keenan Allen, Zay Jones, and Tim Patrick.
