Eagles Could Deal WR Marquise Brown

The Eagles gave wide receiver Marquise Brown a fully guaranteed $5MM deal in free agency, but the investment has not panned out. With Brown barely a factor in the Eagles’ sputtering offense, teams around the NFL believe he could end up on the move before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, according to insider Jordan Schultz.

The Brown addition was part of an offseason shakeup at receiver for the Eagles, who let Jahan Dotson walk in free agency and then traded former No. 1 wideout A.J. Brown to the Patriots in a June 1 blockbuster. In addition to Marquise Brown, trade acquisition Dontayvion Wicks, rookie first-rounder Makai Lemon and free agent pickup Elijah Moore also came in to join the Eagles’ DeVonta Smith-led receiving corps.

Despite their offseason maneuverings on offense, including replacing coordinator Kevin Patullo with Sean Mannion, the Eagles have struggled to move the ball for the second straight year. They sit 29th in scoring and 30th in total offense, and their 26th-ranked passing game will go the rest of the season without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts because of blood clots.

For all intents and purposes, the Eagles have already gone the whole season without Brown. He was active in Week 1 but did not play a single offensive snap. Brown got on the field for 17 snaps in Week 2, and though he had two carries for 12 yards, Hurts didn’t target him. That was the most recent action for Brown, who missed three straight games with an ankle injury and was a healthy scratch for the Eagles’ loss to the Panthers in Week 6.

While Brown has been a nonentity in Philadelphia, the eighth-year veteran has typically offered respectable production. With the exception of a two-game season with the Chiefs in 2024, Brown (also a former Raven and Cardinal) recorded at least 46 catches, 574 yards and three touchdowns in each year prior to this one. The 5-foot-9, 170-pounder signed with the Eagles after hauling in 49 passes for 587 yards and five TDs in 16 games with the Chiefs last season.

If the Eagles find a taker for Brown, they would continue with Smith, Wicks, Lemon and Darius Cooper as their top four receivers. The Eagles wouldn’t save any money in trading Brown, who would leave them with $2.04MM in dead cap, but may be inclined to take whatever draft compensation they can get for a player they aren’t using.
