The Falcons are taking their time in the search for their next general manager, but whoever ultimately gets the job will be faced with several critical decisions involving players who made major impacts this past season.
That’s a significant number of starting-caliber players set to test the open market, many of whom the Falcons would ideally like to keep.
The most intriguing name of the group — not just from Atlanta’s perspective, but league-wide — is Kyle Pitts. The former fourth overall pick has had a rollercoaster first five years in the league, but he finished this past season with the second-best year of his career, catching 88 passes for 928 yards and five touchdowns.
There’s no denying Pitts hasn’t lived up to the expectations that come with his draft position, but he’s still one of the top 10 tight ends in football and is just 25 years old. There will be a strong market for his services, and the Falcons should be heavily involved given how thin their pass-catching options currently are.
Tyler Allgeier is another key contributor the Falcons would love to retain, but he’s almost certainly going to get paid this offseason. With Bijan Robinson firmly entrenched as the lead back, it’s hard to justify committing meaningful resources to a backup running back, even one as productive as Allgeier.
On the defensive side, Atlanta should make retaining Kaden Elliss a priority. He’s been a stabilizing force in the middle of the defense for the past three seasons. Dee Alford is another interesting case. He was BBQ chicken in 2024 but bounced back in a big way this past season under Jeff Ulbrich. There should be legitimate interest in bringing him back.
Leonard Floyd is a veteran option the Falcons could choose to retain, but the front office may prefer to pursue a bigger move at the position to pair with James Pearce Jr. and Jalon Walker. Troy Andersen and Arnold Ebiketie feel much less likely to return. Injuries have derailed what once looked like a promising career for Andersen, while Ebiketie never developed into a consistent impact player after being selected in the second round of the 2022 draft.
On special teams, retaining both core specialists should be a priority. Bradley Pinion has been excellent punting the football, and Zane Gonzalez finally stabilized the kicking situation over the final nine weeks of the season. Both feel like no-brainers heading into the offseason.
