The Steelers offense has undergone a lot of change this offseason, perhaps most notably, the signing of former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith as their new offensive coordinator.
It was a change that was expected after Pittsburgh uncharacteristically parted ways with former offensive coordinator Matt Canada during the 2023 season.
Only time will tell whether Smith's new offense will translate to the field but several players, including Super Bowl-winning guard Isaac Seumalo, already see a difference in Smith's approach.
"I just think he's made everyone super accountable, which I think starts with the players but it's good to have from the coaches as well," Seumalo said. "I think he's been consistent in his message."
Talking with players in the locker room, the message has been the same: be the most physical team in the NFL. Quarterback Justin Fields thinks the Steelers can be just that.
"Most definitely," Fields said. "I think not only do we have the guys but just the guys with the right mentality to do that. I'm excited for this upcoming year and we're going to keep working towards that goal, for sure."
Smith's offense has always started in the trenches, so it's no secret that he wants to do the same in Pittsburgh with one of the better running back duos in the league in Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren running behind a much-improved offensive line.
It's safe to say fans will see a lot of Harris and Warren early and often in 2024. However, Seumalo doesn't care if the Steelers' run attack underwhelms, and they must turn to the passing game.
"The biggest thing for me is winning," Seumalo added. "That's all I really care about. If we got to run it 50 times or throw it 50 times, I'll do whatever."
Seumalo has the right mentality. If he is right that the rest of the team has a similar mindset, Pittsburgh's offense may surprise teams this season.
