San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is legitimately a cornerstone for a franchise that’s trying to get back into the Super Bowl conversation after a down 2020 season.
Kittle, 27, also just signed the richest contract in NFL history for a tight end last year — agreeing to a five-year, $75 million extension with San Francisco. He’s not going anywhere any time soon. Well, unless you took the tight end’s April Fools’ Day joke literally.
Kittle took to social media on April 1 to post a photo of himself in a Jacksonville Jaguars uniform while thanking 49ers fans and indicating that it’s on to a “next chapter.”

For 49ers fans and others around the NFL world, it was obvious that George Kittle took April Fools’ Day to heart. Even then, nothing would surprise us when it comes to San Francisco right now.
It was less than a week ago that the 49ers, without any advanced warning or reports, pulled off a blockbuster trade for the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft later this month.
The cost of three first-round picks and a future third-round pick was high. It also came amid rumors about Jimmy Garoppolo’s future with the 49ers and previous interest in Deshaun Watson.
Needless to say, this joke provoked plenty of reaction.

Crazy this happened on the same day his $11.45 million base salary became guaranteed. Yup, only two things happening today on April 1. Nothing else. Such a coincidence. https://t.co/Ge2f7HkVdS
