George Pickens Fires Blunt Contract Message to Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens made his intentions clear this week regarding what he believes he is worth as a wide receiver in the NFL.

Following the Baltimore Ravens’ agreement with Zay Flowers on a new deal averaging $35 million per season, the Cowboys star did not hold back when asked about his own market value.

“Me personally, I think I’m definitely in that range or above,” Pickens said.

The comment arrives at a pivotal moment in the relationship between the 25-year-old and the organization that acquired him from the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 2025 season.

After a strong first year in Dallas, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Pickens rather than reaching a long-term extension. That decision effectively sets the stage for what many around the league expect will be his final season with the team.

Pickens rewarded the Cowboys’ investment in 2025. He appeared in all 17 regular-season games and produced 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.

Those numbers marked a significant step forward from his earlier years in Pittsburgh and reinforced the belief that he possesses the talent to be a true No. 1 option. Across his four NFL seasons he has accumulated 267 catches, 4,270 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns.

Yet the financial reality in Dallas complicates any path to a massive new contract. CeeDee Lamb remains the clear top wide receiver on the roster and is already compensated at an elite level.

With limited remaining salary-cap space, the Cowboys face a difficult choice: either commit a second large contract to the position group or prepare for Pickens to test free agency after the 2026 campaign.

Jerry Jones and the front office have kept their options open by using the franchise tag, but the receiver’s public statement leaves little doubt about his self-assessment.

At a time when top wideouts are commanding premium money, Pickens has drawn a clear line. Whether Dallas can find a way to meet that valuation remains uncertain.

For now, both sides appear headed toward a temporary partnership in 2026, with the long-term future of one of the league’s most dynamic young receivers still unresolved.
