Giants cornerback Paulson Adebo has missed five straight games with a knee injury, but he may be nearing a return from IR. The Giants opened his 21-day practice window on Wednesday, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

New York spent big on Adebo in free agency in 2025, when it gave the former Saint a three-year, $54MM contract. Adebo currently accounts for the Giants’ largest cap hit ($24.2MM), but the team hasn’t gotten much from the investment yet. He sat out five games with a sprained knee last year and totaled 73 tackles, eight passes defensed and an interception in 12 starts. Adebo yielded a 98.2 passer rating as the nearest defender (up from 70.8 in 2024) and finished as Pro Football Focus’ 72nd-ranked corner out of 108 qualifiers.

Despite the expensive commitment the Giants made to Adebo, he did not enter this season as a starter. He was unable to beat out Deonte Banks, who disappointed in his first three seasons after going 24th overall in the 2023 draft. Working as a reserve in the Giants’ season-opening win over the Cowboys, Adebo played 10 snaps and made three tackles before his injury forced him out.

Banks missed two games with a calf injury earlier this season, but he has started in all four appearances when healthy. While free agent addition Greg Newsome has held down the other starting spot on the outside, he suffered a concussion in the Giants’ 34-27 loss to the Saints last Sunday. Rookie second-rounder Colton Hood, who is also dealing with a concussion, was unavailable for Week 6. Their absences led to more work for fourth-year corner Nic Jones. He played 31 defensive snaps and was charged with allowing one catch – an 18-yard touchdown to wide receiver Chris Olave.

As the Giants gear up for a trip to Houston this week, Newsome was not at practice on Wednesday, according to Raanan. In better news, Hood was a participant, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. While Adebo and Hood appear to be trending better than Newsome, it is unclear if any of the three will be healthy enough to face the Texans and resurgent quarterback C.J. Stroud on Sunday.
