The Cincinnati Bengals are always going to be Super Bowl hunting with Joe Burrow as their quarterback. Two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning expects Burrow to eventually win a ring of his own for the Bengals.
"There are expectations that come with it, but Joe is well aware of those, and he can carry that burden and wants those expectations on his shoulders," Manning told Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson. "And I know he fully expects, as I do as well, to bring a championship here to Cincinnati."
Manning recently stopped by Paycor Stadium to film an episode of "Peyton's Places," his documentary series for ESPN+ that dives into the written history of football as well as the history that's still being written today.
Burrow is well on his way to making plenty of history on his own. He earned MVP votes last year despite the Bengals missing the playoffs, a testament to how extraordinary he played his position.
"He's an incredible quarterback," Manning said of Burrow. "He's just fun to watch play. He's exciting when the ball is in his hands. The game is never over. He's calm, he's collected, he doesn't sweat. Out there on the field, off the field. . .he's very authentic.
"The list goes on and on with all the good things the way he plays it," Manning continued. "He studies it. He's a great athlete, but he appreciates the cerebral part of the game. He's a drop-back quarterback first, and when things aren't going well, he can break out and make things happen with his legs. He can do it all. Like I said, the game's never over."
Super Bowl LVI wasn't over until Burrow's final pass was disrupted by a quick pressure from future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald. It's the closest Cincinnati has gotten to bringing home a Lombardi Trophy since 1988.
It took Manning nine years with the Indianapolis Colts to win a championship. Burrow is entering year six and has four more years left on his record-breaking contract.
The clock is always ticking with a franchise QB, but with confidence coming from such an esteemed figurehead in Manning, Bengals fans have to feel very good about their signal-caller leading the effort to bring a title home to Cincinnati.
