With the departure of Ben Johnson this offseason, the Detroit Lions seemed like they were taking a step back from what was just their biggest strength in 2024 - their offense. They were one of the more creative teams in the league thanks to Johnson's playcalling and head coach Dan Campbell's aggression, and it was in major part due to the reliability of Jared Goff throughout the year.

Now, Goff and other key pieces on offense have to get used to John Morton's style on offense. While the new offensive coordinator mentioned in the offseason that he doesn't plan on shaking the boat too much with Detroit's offense, it's always a given that a new coordinator will want to add their own spin to a team's system.

Well, that new spin is earning praise from the most important part to the offense - Goff.

Goff offers praise for OC Morton's offensive system during OTAs

After practice on Friday and per USA Today's Lions beat reporter Jeff Risdon, the Detroit quarterback told reporters that he's overall been pleased with what he's seen implemented from Morton's mind to their offense in OTAs.

"To be honest, I don't think that would have been any different if you're returning with the same offense. You always kind of add some wrinkles. But, certainly, he has his flavor on the offense and has been doing a good job," said Goff.

He added, "Some of it is different. Some of it is the same. He's got a long background of stuff he's liked that he's done, and he was here for a year through a lot of our success. There will be a lot of that carryover and some new," which speaks to Morton's comments on not wanting to rock the boat too much with an already talented offense.

Goff, who is going to be turning 30 at the beginning of the Lions season, still has a ton left in the tank considering how much he's already seen in the league. His ability to keep growing with a new coordinator and incredible weapons on offense will keep this Detroit team fresh, and he's sure to have another great year if Morton is already earning this level of trust from Goff.
