Jeffery Simmons Practice Fight Tests Robert Saleh's Titans Culture

Once it reaches the padded portion of training camp practices, tempers always start to rise.

For the Tennessee Titans , this was exactly the case; however, new head coach Robert Saleh put an end to it quickly and made sure his players knew there is a line not to cross.

Jeffery Simmons Removed From Tennessee Titans Practice

It was Jeffery Simmons who was included in the fight, but he was removed from team drills after throwing punches in an altercation with members of the Titans' offensive line. Rather than dismissing the incident because it involved one of Tennessee's star players, Saleh immediately enforced his rule.

This situation carried significance as it was the second in which Simmons and JC Latham had to be separated. No punches were thrown on Monday, but Tuesday's fallout forced Saleh to take action.

Simmons did not get to return to team drills, but Saleh also didn't allow him to miss the remainder of practice. Instead, Simmons spent the rest of practice on the side field with a strength coach.

For Saleh, this was needed as he looks to turn the Titans back into contenders. By going about it this way, he shows that he knows the difference between encouraging intensity and accepting a lack of discipline. He wants his players to have a physical edge, but to keep their aggression under control at the same time.

For a player like Simmons, who is supposed to be a player the new players look at, enforcing the rules with him helps Saleh set the tone for the culture he is building.
