Jerry Jones Sends ‘Dangerous’ Message After Cowboys Beat Commanders

Jerry Jones left reporters with a cryptic message after the Dallas Cowboys earned their first victory of the season.

Dallas defeated the Washington Commanders 37-20 on Sunday to improve to 1-1. Shortly afterward, Jones offered what he described as his “quote of the day.”

“Nothing more dangerous than an old man with money,” Jones said, as Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris captured. “Y’all hear? That’s my quote of the day.”

Jones’ comments immediately raised questions about what the owner and general manager of the Cowboys could do next.

Jones did not explain exactly what he meant with that remark. That said, Jones’ comments following the Week 1 loss hinted at his expectations for the Cowboys to contend this season. With the trade deadline set for Nov. 10, Jones might have teased upcoming moves to strengthen the Cowboys roster.

Quarterback Dak Prescott already made the organization’s urgency clear during the offseason, saying its pursuit of a Super Bowl was “as urgent as I’ve ever felt Jerry.”

Even though it wasn’t a cakewalk, Sunday’s win must have given Jones enough to boost his confidence in that group despite Washington producing nearly 400 total yards.

Dallas forced a turnover and received contributions from several new defensive pieces, while Prescott powered the offense. The quarterback completed 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns, breaking Tony Romo’s franchise record for career touchdown passes.

CeeDee Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, and Dallas rebounded from its 28-20 Week 1 loss to the New York Giants.

Dallas faces the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 4:25 p.m. ET.
