Jets owner Woody Johnson: Success of N.Y. teams 'great news for the country'

When fans look at the NFL standings entering Week 7, they'll see an unfamiliar sight: both the New York Giants (5-1) and New York Jets (4-2) have winning records. With a combined mark of 9-3, fanatics in the "Big Apple" are dreaming of playoff football.

Jets owner Woody Johnson discussed what it's like to have both teams playing well in the first half of the season on Tuesday, saying that it's "great news for the country."

The Giants haven't made the postseason, let alone finished with more than six wins, since the 2016 campaign . Star running back Saquon Barkley was a sophomore at Penn St. in 2016.

Though the Jets last finished with a winning record in 2015 (10-6), they haven't made the playoffs since the 2010 season. Led by then-head coach Rex Ryan and quarterback Mark Sanchez, "Gang Green" advanced to the AFC Conference Championship Game before falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The G-Men will look for their fourth straight win in Week 7 when they travel to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Zach Wilson and company vie for their fourth consecutive victory on Sunday as well, when they take on the Denver Broncos at 4:05 p.m. ET on the road.
