Kliff Kingsbury, two other Cardinals out Week 6 after testing positive for COVID-19

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, quarterbacks coach Cam Turner and defensive lineman Zach Allen will miss Sunday’s game after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Cardinals’ COVID-19 outbreak started earlier this week when edge-rusher Chandler Jones tested positive. On Friday night, Arizona announced Kingsbury, Turner and Allen all tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement, the Cardinals announced that defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers will split the head-coaching tasks. As for play-calling, run game coordinator Sean Kugler will play a role in calling plays for Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

While Arizona will be without some key members of its roster and coaching staff, there is hope that no one who tested positive will miss a significant amount of time. The Cardinals revealed in September that they reached a 100% vaccination rate.

Under NFL rules, employees can return to the team when they receive consecutive negative test results 24 hours apart. But under the same league safety guidelines, the Cardinals are now under intensive COVID protocols due to the high volume of positive tests.
