Kyler Murray officially listed as Cardinals' starting QB
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The quarterback controversy that never was. Once the Arizona Cardinals selected reigning Heisman winner Kyler Murray No. 1 overall in April’s draft, it became clear that he would start as a rookie.

Murray’s only competition for the starting gig was Brett Hundley. Well, that’s if you want to call Hundley competition.

Arizona released its first training camp depth chart on Friday. And in no real surprise, Murray has been listed as the Cardinals’ starter.

It was going to take a catastrophic start to camp for this not to be the case. The Cards’ brass has noted on multiple occasions that the expectation was for Murray to start Week 1.

Nothing we’ve seen during the first several days of practice has changed this. Murray already looks like a legitimate NFL starting quarterback.

It’s going to be a blast to see him work under first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury as a rookie this season. While Arizona can’t expect to contend for a playoff spot, the product will be considerably better than last season.
