The Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce and shortly after, a few days after actually, they fired general manager Tom Telesco. The ownership group, primarily Tom Brady, wanted the Raiders to have a fresh start with a new head coach and general manager pairing. It took a few days for them to come to that conclusion, though.
The Raiders have not decided which of the two positions they want to hire first. But, we know that they wanted Ben Johnson, the Lions offensive coordinator, and he was hired by the Chicago Bears on Monday. So, now the Raiders have to somewhat change directions. The new favorite seems to be Pete Carroll, but that's not confirmed or even being reported, but just how it feels knowing what we know about the team.
Now, though, the Raiders have hired their general manager, so the hiring of the head coach may come much easier and quicker. Well, at least they are expected to hire him.
The Raiders are expected to hire former Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek, a guy who is pretty long overdue getting his shot, finally. In 2022, when the Raiders were in need of a new general manager, they interviewed John Spytek before ultimately hiring Dave Ziegler.

Appointed to his current position with the Buccaneers in 2023, Spytek's NFL journey began in 2004 with an internship in the operations department for the Detroit Lions. He then moved to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005, progressing from a pro personnel intern to a college/pro scout.
Following his tenure as Director of College Scouting with the Cleveland Browns from 2010 to 2012, he joined the Denver Broncos in 2013 as a Southwest area scout, later becoming a national scout, and was part of their Super Bowl 50 victory.
Since 2016, Spytek has served as the Director of Player Personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, contributing significantly to their success, including four consecutive NFC South titles and a Super Bowl win in 2020. His responsibilities include overseeing daily operations of both the college and pro scouting departments, preparing for free agency, and scouting talent from different leagues, thereby helping to maintain the team's competitive edge under GM Jason Licht.
Spytek has also been interviewed by other teams, including the Tennessee Titans. He was the Titans' second choice until they hired Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi. Now, the Raiders have their guy, and a guy who has a very close relationship with Tom Brady from their days as teammates at Michigan.
