Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland keeps stacking wins after making NFL history with the most pick-sixes by an NFL player ever.
On Monday, the NFL announced its Performance-Based Pay Distributions ahead of the 2024 season, a program that "compensates all players based upon their playing time and salary levels."
In Bland's case, the program will net him $759,756 in addition to what he was already set to make, including his Proven Performance Escalator, which will make him over $3 million more after his recent Pro Bowl trip in the near future.
As the NFL defines them, the Performance-Based Pay distributions work as a "supplemental form of player compensation based upon a comparison of playing time to salary. Players become eligible to receive a bonus distribution in any regular season in which they play at least one official down. In general, players with higher playtime percentages and lower salaries benefit most from the pool."
Bland's base salary for the 2023 NFL season stood at $870,000 yet he played in 90.28% of the defensive snaps, the second most on the team only behind Stephon Gilmore.
With this news, we're talking about an 87% increase for Bland's 2023 cash earnings.
It's well deserved for the former fifth-round pick who has been on a meteoric rise within the team's ranks. He's played both nickel and outside cornerback for the Cowboys. If he keeps it up, this type of numbers will be nothing for chump change for a guy trending to signing a very lucrative deal when his time comes for a second NFL contract.
