The AFC West rivalry intensifies as the Los Angeles Chargers prepare to battle the Las Vegas Raiders on the second part of Monday Night Football in Week 2. Both teams enter this crucial divisional matchup undefeated, with first place on the line and bragging rights at stake.
The Chargers shocked the football world last week by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil, finally breaking through against their division nemesis after years of heartbreak. Meanwhile, the Raiders beat the New England Patriots on the road, 20-13.

Justin Herbert delivered the signature performance that Chargers fans have been desperately waiting for. The talented quarterback completed 73.5% of his passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns against Kansas City, looking every bit like the elite signal-caller many believed he could become.
The Chargers’ offense showed remarkable balance and explosiveness in their season opener. Quentin Johnston emerged as a genuine threat with over 70 yards and two touchdowns, while veteran receiver Keenan Allen reminded everyone why he’s been one of the most reliable targets in the league. Allen hauled in seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown, displaying the same chemistry with Herbert that made them such a formidable combination for four seasons.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh’s influence appears to be paying immediate dividends, as the team looked more disciplined and focused than in recent years. The defense held Kansas City to just 98 rushing yards, though 57 of those came from Mahomes scrambling, which shows their ability to contain opposing ground games when the game script demands it
Geno Smith delivered a masterful performance in the Raiders’ impressive road victory over New England, throwing for 362 yards and a touchdown while managing the game expertly.
Meanwhile, Ashton Jeanty struggled mightily in his NFL debut, managing just 38 yards on 19 carries against the Patriots’ defense. The former Boise State star will need to bounce back quickly if the Raiders hope to establish any semblance of a ground game against a Chargers defense that effectively neutralized Kansas City’s rushing attack.
Before we give the pick, do we know why the NFL feels the West Coast wants a game in prime time, in our time zone, once a year? Speaking as a resident of Arizona, we love that the game starts as we are driving home from work. At least we are awake to see the ending. For those on the East Coast, as the game ends Tuesday morning, if you are still up, you will see the Chargers taking home the win.
