The Giants are hoping two of their top offensive weapons will be healed up and ready to go by Week 1. However, recent video shows Skattebo is on a much different path than Nabers.
The New York Giants are hoping Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo can fully recover from two gruesome injuries by the time the 2026 season rolls around.
It’s a different story for both players, however. Recent reporting around Nabers creates a murky cloud regarding his future availability. The former Pro Bowler had a second surgery during the offseason to clean up the right knee in which he tore his ACL. It pushed back his recovery timeline, but the Giants remain optimistic he’ll be ready by Week 1.
“[It’s] just impossible to predict,” head coach John Harbaugh told reporters during OTAs. “I mean, the goal is to start the season and get out there sometime in training camp. That’d be the goal and we’ll see what happens.”
Either way, only time will tell when it comes to Nabers’ return. Skattebo, however, is on a completely different trajectory.
The second-year running back should be ready for training camp after brutal leg injuries that cut his rookie year short. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll be around for OTAs/minicamp, but training camp is completely realistic.
After watching videos of both at Brian Burns’ charity softball event, it’s easy to see the different paths both players are on:

The injuries are a reflection of each player’s respective position groups, as well. The Giants have a fairly deep running back room with Skattebo on track for training camp. Unfortunately, the receivers are in shambles thanks to Nabers’ complicated recovery and the recent Achilles injury to Gunner Olszweski that ended his year.
As it stands, along with Skattebo, the Giants’ top running backs are Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary.
On the other hand, the top receivers are Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin, and Darnell Mooney. Rookie Malachi Fields is also worth mentioning, as the third-rounder can use Nabers’ absence as an opportunity to carve out a role.
It’s clear the running back room is in better shape, right now.
This is nothing on Nabers, it’s just how it goes, sometimes. On top of the ACL, he had to undergo a full meniscus repair, which usually tacks on some extra time. As someone who’s dealt with a torn ACL myself, the odds of a setback or complication are high.
We’ll see where both are once training camp rolls around in late July.
