Matthew Stafford heard constant trade chatter during the offseason. The Los Angeles Rams quarterback now hears rumblings of a new QB coming via the draft.
Stafford finally broke his silence about the possibility of a new signal-caller heading inside the "Rams House." The Super Bowl winning QB sent this clear message to the franchise, per Adam Grosbard of the Orange County Register Monday.
"Whoever we draft, I hope they come in and help our team win,” Stafford said.
Sounds like Stafford isn't interfering with any decision the Rams make for the three draft days. Or will scoff at the team for taking a younger quarterback.
There's already a focus on Jalen Milroe from Alabama by Rams fans this week. The dual-threat quarterback took a "30 visit" to the Rams' facility Monday, per ESPN NFL Draft insider Matt Miller. Milroe is rising on draft boards after delivering a decorated career with the Crimson Tide. Even garnering late first round attention.
Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports has the Rams skipping Milroe, though. Easterling predicts the New York Giants will trade back into the first round at No. 30 to nab the 'Bama star. Los Angeles chooses interior offensive lineman Grey Zabel of North Dakota State at No. 26 instead.
But again, Stafford is open to whoever the Rams take. He watched how impactful Jared Verse and Braden Fiske became as last year's top Rams picks.
"You look at it last year, our first two picks were guys on defense that made huge impacts on our team,” Stafford said. “So for me, I'm just trying to load this team up with as many good players as we possibly can.”
And that includes Stafford's position.
“If a quarterback comes along and they feel the need to take him, you'll welcome him with open arms and try to teach him as much as I possibly can,” Stafford said.
The Rams hold eight draft picks for Thursday to Saturday.
