Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams are set to face the Chicago Bears in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Stafford led the Rams to a wild card win over the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, 34-31. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback finished with 24-of-42 completed passes for 304 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Stafford, however, sustained an injury during the Panthers game. He banged his right hand on a follow-through in the second quarter. Stafford avoided a dislocation, but he was diagnosed with a sprained right index finger.
The Rams, however, are adamant about Stafford’s availability for Sunday’s game in Chicago.
Rams head coach Sean McVayannounced Stafford’s injury on Monday. Despite the injury news, McVay stated that Stafford will be good to go against the Bears.
Stafford was a full participant in the Rams’ practice on Wednesday. This was L.A.’s first of three practice sessions leading up to Sunday’s game in Chicago.
Stafford spoke to reporters and said that his finger feels “great.” The 37-year-old revealed that he does not plan to wear any protection on the finger for Sunday’s game.
Stafford explained that the team “did a good job of jumping” on the injury after the Panthers game. “Whatever was there is gone now. It feels good,” he added.
At this point, there is no doubt that Stafford will play in the divisional round.
The Bears will host the Rams on Sunday. Kickoff from Soldier Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with NBC providing the broadcast.
