Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Micah Parsons continues to be a gamechanger for the Green Bay defense. He ranks fifth in the NFL with 10 sacks this season, including two in the Packers' 23-6 win over the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field on Sunday. He has now hit double-figures in sacks in each of his first five NFL seasons, the second-longest streak to start a career in NFL history.
For the Week 12 game against the Vikings, Parsons and his teammates wore customized cleats as part of the NFL’s annual My Cause My Cleats initiative. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott were a few of the other notable players around the league who wore theirs on Sunday.
The campaign allows players to express themselves with their footwear while also using their platform to highlight the causes that are close to their hearts. The cleats are auctioned off after the game to raise money for a charity of the player's choice.
The NFL announced Parsons' cause, The Lion Heart Foundation, via a joint Instagram post on Monday with the Packers and Parsons. The star pass rusher reacted with four heart emojis in the comments.
"@_micahparsons11's why?" the NFL captioned the video. "Stepping up for families in need with the The Lion Heart Foundation. #MyCauseMyCleats"
"I believe every family deserves a shot at a better life," Parsons said, showing off his custom green-and-yellow cleats in the video. "That's why I started The Lion Heart Foundation. Uplifting family, youth and community. It takes all of us. I'm stepping up for families in need, so they never have to walk alone."
Parsons and the Packers (7-3-1) have a big game coming up on Thanksgiving Day when they travel to Ford Field to face the Detroit Lions (7-4) in Week 13. There is a lot on the line in the NFC North matchup, with both teams chasing the division-leading Chicago Bears (8-3).
Fans can tune into see Parsons and the Packers against the Lions at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX, featuring commentary from the network's top team of Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady.
