The Falcons have been radio silent when peppered with questions about James Pearce Jr. and his ongoing legal battle, but Andy Slater of Fox Sports South Florida has been on the story from the beginning and delivered the latest update on the situation.
Pearce’s ex-girlfriend Rickea Jackson has voluntarily dropped her attempt at a permanent restraining order. Slater also reports that the pre-trial diversion program will run 12 months rather than the initially reported six, during which Pearce must have no contact with Jackson.
SLATER SCOOP: James Pearce Jr. was approved for a fast-track to getting this case dismissed, I've learned. It will be a one year program instead of six months.

From Pearce’s lawyer Yale Sanford, via Josh Kendall of The Athletic:
“Overall, it is the best possible result we could have imagined here,” Sanford said. “It speaks to the willingness of the state to give him the opportunity. I think that’s an extreme win for us, and especially for James. It allows him to focus on himself and his family and getting back on the football field.”
A Florida assistant state attorney cited Pearce’s status as a first-time offender, the absence of any physical harm, and the fact that the incident appeared to stem from a mental health crisis as the reasoning behind the more lenient outcome.
The question that remains is how long the league will suspend him. The NFL will conduct its own investigation and hand down its own punishment, but given that the case is headed toward dismissal and nobody was harmed, it looks increasingly likely Pearce is back on the field at some point this season — with a suspension somewhere in the range of four to eight games appearing most probable.
Given how the case looked when it first came to light, that’s a second chance most people in this country wouldn’t be afforded. Hopefully, James Pearce Jr. makes the most of it.
