News Surfaces That Carolina Could Add All-Pro Cornerback

What if the missing piece to the Panthers’ defensive puzzle is already in the league—and has already played under Ejiro Evero?

The Carolina Panthers could be in the mix for one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks, as Miami’s Jalen Ramsey may be on the move this summer. The Dolphins are reportedly shopping the three-time All-Pro, and Carolina’s connection through Evero—who coached Ramsey in Los Angeles from 2019-2021—has caught the attention of both fans and insiders.

“This isn’t about a guy who wants more money, or a guy who can’t play anymore,” said NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. “This is just a situation where relationships are hard and the relationship between the Dolphins and Ramsey has essentially run out.”

Ramsey, 30, still has plenty in the tank. He notched 22 tackles and 3 interceptions in just 10 games last season after recovering from a torn meniscus. When healthy, he’s one of the most dynamic defensive backs in the league—and a game-changer for a secondary that allowed 28.8 points per game in 2024, the worst mark in franchise history.

The numbers matter, too. The Dolphins stand to save $18 million if they move Ramsey after June 1. Carolina currently holds $18.6 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap, just enough to absorb his $16.6 million cap hit for 2025. Though his future cap figures—$25 million in 2026 and up to $36.1 million by 2028—could cause hesitation, the Panthers could offset that with restructuring or a reworked deal.

From a football perspective, it makes sense. Pairing Ramsey with newly extended Jaycee Horn and shifting Mike Jackson to a CB3 role could quickly elevate Carolina’s pass defense into one of the league’s most respected.

Panthers GM Dan Morgan skipped cornerback entirely in April’s draft. That may not have been a mistake—it could have been a sign.

Ramsey has shown respect for Evero publicly, tweeting praise for his former coach just days ago. The timing? Interesting. The fit? Almost perfect. If Morgan and Evero want to fast-track a defensive turnaround, the phone call to Miami could come sooner than we think.
