Commanders GM Adam Peters still stands behind HC Dan Quinn even after the team fell short the past two weeks, including the mistake where they couldn’t get off a field goal as time expired in overtime.
“I think (Quinn) has created that culture where, you know, I’ve been on teams where things have fractured and people start pointing fingers and there’s whispers in the building and the doors are closed and guys are having conversations. We aren’t even close to that.” Peters said, via The Athletic.“That’s a testament to his leadership and the leadership in the building with the assistant coaches, and then the veterans on the team, the captains, have done a great job of that, too.”
“It showed a lot of leadership and growth and maturity (that) all the people that were involved all took accountability, which I thought is a sign of a good team, a well-coached, well-knit kind of close team that nobody’s pointing fingers.” Peters continued. “Then it’s just about, all right, just looking at what we have in front of us, and it’s still everything. We still got 12 games, we still got 70 percent of the season and the division is still open. So it’s, ‘All right, what do we got to do to go beat the 49ers?’ And that’s the mindset we took, and that was really, I was impressed to see that from the group.”
Eagles HC Nick Sirianni said that he fully backs the team’s medical staff and their decision to clear QB Jalen Hurts for last week’s game.
“I’m not a medical expert,” Sirianni said, via PFT. “I lean on our guys in all those situations. I’m a football coach. I lean on our medical folks in every situation. I have full trust and full faith in them. It’s not just me who has major care for our players, it’s them as well. We are all there and I’m glad to be part of an organization that cares about our guys the way ours do.”
Giants RB Cam Skattebo said he was benched against the Falcons, but HC John Harbaugh denied it after reporters asked.
“I got punished for what I did,” Skattebo said, via The Athletic. “I understand it, so I gotta be ready when coach calls my name, and that wasn’t (Sunday). It’s hard, but I’ve made mistakes, and I got to own up to them. If that is what they want to do, is keep me on the sidelines because of that, I totally understand. I can’t make mistakes at this level of this game, and when you make mistakes like that, consequences will be had.”
“We didn’t bench Cam Skattebo,” Harbaugh noted. “It was not by design. All those guys were taking equal reps in the first half, and we were trying to see who could make something happen, who could get a hot hand and earn it. Nobody has really taken the bull by the horns. When he was in there, we didn’t call any runs. I think it’s been pretty clear the whole story. I don’t even know what else to say. That’s the best answer you could ever get in 1,000 years. There’s not a coach in the world that would give you a better answer than that. If you’re not thrilled with that answer, I got nothing else for you, honestly.”
