Commanders

In the Commanders’ 23-17 loss to the 49ers, QB Jayden Daniels threw the ball away on 4th-and-2 after San Francisco was penalized. Washington HC Dan Quinn said he wanted Daniels to take a shot instead of throwing it out of bounds.

“Even when you know there’s a penalty, you still take your shot, man, to go throw it, complete it,” Quinn said, via John Keim of ESPN. “You don’t know if it’s gonna get picked up.”

Daniels helped the Commanders rally from a 20-3 deficit to pulling within one score. Quinn praised the quarterback for making incredible throws, but added there were other plays where he wanted Daniels to stick to his reads.

“Like most things with him, there’s some plays that you said, that’s an incredible throw,” Quinn said. “And there’s other ones I’d love him to stay through the [read].”

Quinn reiterated that Daniels makes a lot of passes that impress him.

“He always can make some throws that just kinda leaves you thinking, ‘Man, there it is. There’s only a few guys that can make that throw or that play,’” Quinn said.

Cowboys

Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer and QB Dak Prescott are focused on turning things around and avoiding mistakes to dig themselves out of the hole.

“The effort is right, the fight is right, but mistakes are killing us,” Schottenheimer said, via The Athletic. “Repeating mistakes is not what we’re about. We got to clean it up. Lost two games in a row. Haven’t played well. And got to take a hard look at it. And that starts with me.”

“We’re in a hole,” Schottenheimer added. “We put ourselves there, and there’s one way out of it. That’s what I told the guys. I said, you got to work, got to find solutions, can’t repeat mistakes. And they understand that. There’s definitely time to pull out of it. But we got to fix the mistakes that we’ve talked about. … Go back to work. That’s what we’re going to do. Division game, Philadelphia (next week), another place that’s tough to play at. But our guys are going to respond. It’s not the effort, it’s the execution. And that’s what we got to clean up, and that’s as a football team, coaches and players alike.”

“We got to figure that out,” Prescott said when asked what has gone wrong for the group. “I wish I could give you that answer at this time. (I have to) watch the film to see what wasn’t done or what wasn’t executed efficiently. I know I had plays out there that I want back that I know directly correlated to a turnover and us getting off the field on third down, and fourth down on one of them. I don’t have the answer for the whole team and what that is, but I believe in who we are and I know we have the talent and the men that care. We just have to put it together. Our process is right, but we have to win on Sunday. It’s about us fixing our issues, cleaning house and just getting better. From there, the division is open, that will take care of itself. But we have to win first and we have to get going and from there we can try to build. It is about finding a way to win.”

Eagles

Eagles HC Nick Sirianni and QB Tanner McKee addressed the media after McKee couldn’t lead the team to victory in his first start replacing injured QB Jalen Hurts.

“We have to do different things to get them going and score more points, plain and simple,” Sirianni said, via The Athletic. “Everything’s on the table. To do the same thing over and over again and not get the results, that’d be foolish. Everything’s on the table of what we need to do to be able to put points on the board.”

“I think that’s one thing that’s great about this offense — there’s a lot of words, there’s a lot of different formations, a lot of different things, a lot of different concepts that everything’s in,” McKee added. “So I think we can mold it to my strengths and mold it to what we do well as an offense. We have a lot of really good playmakers. And so I think it’s just whatever our offense will do best this week versus whoever we’re playing. My team needs me to be better. I need to be better. I am so much better, and I’m looking forward to learning everything and becoming the player that I know I am, the player that I can prove that I am. A lot of things, obviously, that were frustrating fall on me. A lot of things we’ve got to get fixed as an offense for sure.”
