NFL free agents who could still help teams in 2020

Now into June, there remain many NFL players in free agency who can still help teams. These 25 free agents are among the best players still available.

1 of 25

Kelvin Beachum, OT

Beachum, an eight-year veteran, has seen a surprisingly quiet market. He started 13 games for the Jets last season and is entering only his age 31 season.

2 of 25

Eric Berry, S

Eric Berry, S
Denny Medley / USA Today Sports Images

Berry took the 2019 season off, giving a chronic heel issue time to mend. The three-time All-Pro barely played in 2017 and 2018 due to injuries, but his past ability and leadership should give him one more opportunity in the league.

Nigel Bradham, LB

The 30-yer-old Bradham started 12 games for the Eagles last season, recording 61 tackles. His play has fallen off slightly, but the veteran linebacker should be able to help in the right situation.

4 of 25

Jadeveon Clowney, DE

Clowney has been searching for a lucrative contract this offseason and remains the top prize in free agency. He recorded only three sacks in 13 games for the Seahawks last season but was disruptive in other ways and is just entering his age 27 season.

5 of 25

Dustin Colquitt, P

A two-time Pro Bowl punter, Colquitt's Chiefs career came to an end after 15 seasons when the team released him last month to save money. He's continued to perform at a high level into his late 30s and shouldn't have trouble finding a job if he wants to continue his NFL career.

6 of 25

Mike Daniels, DT

Mike Daniels, DT

Daniels was a disappointment in Detroit last season, playing only nine games due to injury. Now mostly a run stuff at this point in his career, the former Pro Bowl lineman with Green Bay might have a difficult time finding a taker.

7 of 25

Marcell Dareus, DT

Marcell Dareus, DT
Reinhold Matay / USA Today Sports Images

Dareus has been an elite run stopper during his career with Buffalo and Jacksonville but played only six games last year due to a core muscle injury. He could still help a team that wants to improve its run defense at age 30.

8 of 25

Darqueze Dennard, CB

Dennard came close to signing with Jacksonville this offseason, but the former Bengal remains on the open market. He played only nine games last season due to injury but has plenty of experience entering his age 29 season.

Devonta Freeman, RB

Freeman missed most of 2018 due to injury and looked like he lost a step in Atlanta last year, averaging only 3.6 yards per carry. His versatility should still make him attractive in a complementary role at age 28.

10 of 25

Taylor Gabriel, WR

The speedy Gabriel played only nine games in Chicago last year due to injury, coming off a career year in which he had 67 receptions for 688 yards in 2018. He's hoping for an opportunity to show what he has left at age 29.

11 of 25

Cordy Glenn, OT

Glenn has averaged only nine games per season over the last four years, likely the biggest reason for his quiet market. He was a solid left tackle early in his career with Buffalo before joining Cincinnati in 2018.

12 of 25

Markus Golden, DE

Markus Golden, DE

Golden did well to revitalize his value with the Giants last season, or so it seemed. The former Cardinal recorded double-digit sacks for the second time in his career with 10 in 16 games, overcoming two injury-plagued seasons.

13 of 25

Stephen Gostkowski, K

Stephen Gostkowski, K

Gostkowski has been one of the game's best kickers for much of his career but was released by the Patriots after an injury-riddled 2019 season. He might have to prove his health but should be able to help a team in 2020 if he's right.

14 of 25

Everson Griffen, DE

Griffen was cut by the Vikings after 10 seasons, including Pro Bowls in four of the last five campaigns. He recorded eight sacks in 15 games last season.

15 of 25

Damon Harrison, DT

A longtime run stuffer, "Snacks" Harrison saw his play decline last year with only 49 tackles and two sacks in 15 games with Detroit. He's still one year removed from being a dominant defender but has yet to find a home for 2020.

16 of 25

Tony Jefferson, S

Jefferson was released by Baltimore in February after playing only five games in 2019 due to a knee injury. At age 28, he seems likely to find a landing spot before the start of the season.

17 of 25

Reshad Jones, S

Reshad Jones, S

Jones was injured and played only four games last season, which marked the end of his 10-season tenure with Miami. At age 32, the two-time Pro Bowler could still add veteran leadership.

18 of 25

Colin Kaepernick, QB

Kaepernick last appeared in the NFL in 2016 and has since been bypassed by NFL teams following his controversial protests. In the midst of the current protests around the country and in Minneapolis, former NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart suggests the Vikings should sign Kaepernick. Kaepernick did hold a tryout in 2019, and the former 49ers starter could still help a team as a mobile backup at age 32.

19 of 25

Dre Kirkpatrick, CB

Dre Kirkpatrick, CB

Cincinnati revamped its defense this offseason and released Kirkpatrick after eight seasons. He played only six games last year due to injury and should find a home as a depth signing as he approaches age 31.

20 of 25

Cam Newton, QB

Cam Newton, QB
Jeremy Brevard / USA Today Sports Images

Newton missed most of 2019 with a foot injury and has yet to find a new team since he was released by the Panthers. With few starting opportunities left, the 2015 MVP might opt to remain on the market until a good opportunity arises.

21 of 25

Jason Peters, LT

Jason Peters, LT

Peters has made nine Pro Bowls during his career and still plans a return this year at age 38. He's missed time to injuries in two of the last three seasons but has continued to play well when in the lineup.

22 of 25

Eric Reid, S

Eric Reid, S
Jeremy Brevard / USA Today Sports Images

Reid started all 16 games for Carolina last year, finishing with a career-high 130 tackles and four sacks. He was released by the rebuilding Panthers in March, but his recent play shows that he can certainly still help a team.

23 of 25

Logan Ryan, CB

Logan Ryan, CB
George Walker IV / USA Today Sports Images

Ryan has started in Tennessee over the last three seasons but ran into some struggles last year. He is the top cornerback remaining on the market entering his age 29 season.

24 of 25

Delanie Walker, TE

George Walker IV / USA Today Sports Images

A late bloomer in Tennessee, Walker has had trouble staying on the field over the last two seasons, playing a total of eight games due to injuries. Continuing his career at age 36 could be difficult for the three-time Pro Bowler, but he was productive last season (215 yards receiving in seven games) when he did play.

25 of 25

Larry Warford, OG

Larry Warford, OG
Chuck Cook / USA Today Sports Images

Warford is clearly the top offensive lineman available in free agency after the Saints released him last month. The seven-year pro has made three consecutive Pro Bowls and shouldn't have a problem finding a starting job elsewhere.

Steelers work out two QBs amid Aaron Rodgers injury

With Aaron Rodgers dealing with a left wrist injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers worked out veteran quarterbacks Jason Bean and Tanner Mordecai on Tuesday, per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. The Steelers currently have three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster and zero on their practice squad. Backup Mason Rudolph, and third-stringer Will Howard will both move up a spot on the depth chart for at least a week, leaving the Steelers without a third option should either of them get injured. Bean, 26, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Kansas in 2024. He did not make the 53-man roster, but stuck around on the practice squad for the entire season. He was waived during final roster cuts this year and did not draw practice squad interest from the Colts or any other team. Mordecai is also a 26-year-old who entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2024. Mordecai finished his college career at Wisconsin and signed with the 49ers last spring. He spent the season on San Francisco’s practice squad and was repeatedly cut and re-signed during training camp as the team balanced their other roster needs. He was waived due to injury a final time during roster cuts. The Steelers did not sign Bean or Mordecai, though that could be coming in the next few days as they continue to assess Rodgers’ wrist. They could also work out other available quarterbacks later this week.

Steve Spurrier has two endorsements for next Florida HC

Steve Spurrier is a legend for the Florida Gators. Known as "the head ball coach" down in SEC-land, Spurrier was a star both as a player and as a coach for Florida. Heck, the dang field in Gainesville is named after him. That means what he says about the Florida program carries a lot of weight, and he recently revealed that he believes there are only two people who would live up to the expectations and be a great fit for the Gators as they look to replace fired head coach Billy Napier sooner rather than later. “I know Lane Kiffin and I know Eli Drinkwitz,” Spurrier recently said, according to Daniel Hager of On3. “Obviously, either one of those guys would be super if it works out. But, it’s a long way from whoever we’re going to get as our coach right now.” The Gators are currently making a full-court press for Lane Kiffin, but they're not alone in their pursuit in the Ole Miss head coach. While the Gators reportedly flew members of Kiffin's family down to Gainesville to check things out recently, the LSU Tigers also pulled the same trick — hoping to get Kiffin to ultimatly come down to Baton Rouge. LSU is probably Florida's biggest competitor for Kiffin right now, but there's also Ole Miss to consider. It's not like the Rebels are going to let a coach who has led them to a 54-19 record over the past six seasons go without a fight. Kiffin would absolutely be a home-run hire for the Gators, though. He's a high-level recruiter and a high-level offensive mind in the SEC. Those are two things that the Gators desperately need in the wake of the middling Napier era. Not only that, but Kiffin has ties to the state. He was the head coach at Florida Atlantic from 2017-19. Eli Drinkwitz an interesting option for Florida if it can't land Lane Kiffin Drinkwitz is another interesting option, though. You'll also notice that there's a trend here for Florida, and that's going after established SEC head coaches. Napier had come from the Sun Belt conference. Drinkwitz has made Missouri a tough out in the SEC and he's won a ton of football games. His overall record at Mizzou is 45-27, though his record in big games does leave a little to be desired. He's 7-14 against ranked opponents and 0-7 against top-10 teams. Still, Drinkwitz is a young coach at just 42, so the upside is there. He's a big personality who does well on the recruiting trail, and he could do a lot of good things with the firepower of the Florida Gators behind him. There are other options out there for Florida. Washington head coach Jedd Fisch is a Florida alumnus, for instance. If Spurrier has narrowed it down to Kiffin and Drinkwitz in his mind, though, you can bet those in power at Florida are likely thinking the same thing.

Steelers' Darnell Washington Makes History After Brutal Run Against Bengals: 'You Have Infamy'

The Pittsburgh Steelers are no stranger to Kyle Brandt's Angry Run award, but it usually goes to a running back, typically Jaylen Warren, or previously, when he was on the roster, Najee Harris. In Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals, someone made history, and it was not a running back. It was the 6'7", probably 300-pound tight end, Darnell Washington. During the game, Washington delivered a 31-yard catch and run and bulldozed through the Bengals’ defense. He was a one-man wrecking crew as he overpowered any defender brave enough to try and tackle him. His domination quickly became the talk of the game and left fans in awe of his size, strength, and determination. For the first time ever, Brandt did not have any other finalists for the award. Washington was finalist 1, 2, and 3. His historic performance against the Bengals will live on in football fans’ memories forever, a moment that changed the way people view the Angry Run award. For Steeler Nation, the 2025 season has finally been the year of Washington. "That is Darnell doing Darnell things, way too big of a dude to be running like that," Brandt said. "So I have got Darnell Washington from the Steelers and there it is again. That is the third finalist as Darnell Washington runs over a dude... This was the Godfather trilogy of runs, except he stuck the landing on part three." Not only was it crazy that a tight end was being nominated for the award, he completely stole any running back's chance of even being considered for the Angry Run award. That just shows how dominant Washington’s run truly was on Sunday. Every defender in his path was left in awe. His performance will be remembered as one of the most unstoppable plays of the 2025 season. "A play of three acts," Brandt said. "A play of violence, a tragedy, but also a comedy at the same time. This thing's going to the Steel City. Darnell Washington, you have made history. You have infamy, and you have the scepter. It's going back to where it belongs after an all-time Angry Run. New York, an all-time Angry Run. Boom. See you next week." Steelers fans have been waiting to see this kind of performance from Washington ever since he was drafted 93rd overall by Pittsburgh in the 2023 NFL Draft. Steelers' Darnell Washington Is Tight End 1 Coming out of Georgia, he was known as an elite blocking tight end, but Sunday showed the full extent of his rare combination of speed, size, and sheer strength. When used properly, Washington can be one of the most unique and dominant tight ends in the league. His historic run against the Bengals was a glimpse of his true potential and a reminder of why Steelers fans are so excited about his future. It seems that Washington has now clearly passed tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Jonnu Smith to become the current number one tight end for the Steelers. The Steelers have three elite tight ends on their roster. Now it's up to Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith to continue to find out how to use them properly. Steelers fans, when you saw Darnell Washington bulldozing through Bengals defenders and making those jaw-dropping plays, what was going through your mind in that moment? How did it feel to see him dominate like that on the field?

The Dolphins have plenty of incentive to keep phasing a familiar face into a bigger role as the rest of the 2025 season unfolds

The Miami Dolphins' pass catching unit has seen its depth tested thus far in 2025. First, it was the Tyreek Hill show throughout the first three weeks of the season. Then, as Jaylen Waddle stepped up to assume the WR1 mantle in Miami upon Hill's knee injury, the Dolphins saw tight end Darren Waller emerge from the shadows to become a marquee threat. Waller's stay in the spotlight was short-lived, as a pec injury against Cleveland pushed him to injured reserve. The time spent since in the passing game has been poured fully into Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane, with the rest of Miami's eligibles rotating between an extra offensive lineman in Daniel Brunskill, tight ends like Julian Hill and Greg Dulcich, and their collection of role-playing wide receivers. Dividing up snaps the rest of the way could be an interesting calculus for the Dolphins — as more of one option could give the Dolphins a boost in more ways than one. Is more Cedrick Wilson Jr. what the doctor ordered as the third wide receiver for Miami? Miami brought Cedrick Wilson Jr. back to the 53-man roster after Hill's season-ending knee injury and he's been playing approximately 30% of the Dolphins' offensive snaps in the four games he's played this season. Wilson Jr. isn't a big-time separator, nor does he have prolific speed at the position. In isolation, he's a fairly vanilla option. But he knows the offense; Wilson Jr. played with Mike McDaniel, Tua Tagovailoa, and company in both 2022 and 2023. That muscle memory in this offense sets the stage for him to be a role player in personnel packages that require multiple wide receivers on early downs. Wilson Jr. is a plus run blocker. That's where this thing is headed. Miami's been pounding the rock and leaning into heavier Jumbo personnel groupings — putting Wilson Jr. on the field as a blocker gives Miami an alternative option to field versus 2025 free agent signing Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who has been a bit of a disappointment thus far this season. Westbrook-Ikhine has seen his snap share reduced in four consecutive weeks, ultimately coinciding with the elevated profile for Cedrick Wilson Jr. Cedrick Wilson Jr.'s snap counts for Dolphins in recent Weeks Week 8: 22 snaps (31.9%) on offense Week 9: 14 snaps (21.9%) on offense Week 10: 15 snaps (28.3%) on offense Week 11: 17 snaps (30.4%) on offense This move isn't one you make to facilitate targets to him in the passing game. It's a move you make to get better perimeter run blocking and physicality as the Dolphins lean further into the run game. But it's also got a hidden value, too. Westbrook-Ikhine is one of the new Dolphins in 2025 who is currently qualifying as a compensatory free agent gained in the league's calculations for awarding draft picks in the NFL Draft via net losses via free agency. Playing time fuels a portion of that calculation — snap percentage to be exact. Wilson Jr., who signed in Miami off the Saints' practice squad mid-season, is a playing time option who does not threaten to water down a potential lingering draft pick to be gained for losing Jevon Holland in free agency. Westbrook-Ikhine is. Given that Wilson Jr. is a better blocker, is more familiar with the system, and does not threaten Miami's potential 2026 draft capital via the compensatory pick formula, he may be exactly what the Dolphins ordered the rest of the way. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has yet to establish rapport with Tua Tagovailoa and the less he plays, the less chance Miami loses out on an extra fourth-round pick. So what, exactly, is there to talk about? Let's keep pushing post-bye with Cedrick Wilson Jr. as the third receiver behind Jaylen Waddle and Malik Washington. window.addEventListener('message', function (event) {if (event.data.totalpoll event.data.totalpoll.action === 'resizeHeight') {document.querySelector('#totalpoll-iframe-426').height = event.data.totalpoll.value;}}, false);document.querySelector('#totalpoll-iframe-426').contentWindow.postMessage({totalpoll: {action: 'requestHeight'}}, '*'); This story was originally reported by A to Z Sports on Nov 18, 2025, where it first appeared in the NFL section.
