Earlier this week, All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey was placed on the trade block, as it was reported the two sides would work on finding a destination for seven time Pro-Bowler.
Unlike the rumors surrounding star pass rushers like Myles Garrett or Micah Parsons, this one actually has some serious legs, with CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones speaking as if the Dolphins moving Jalen Ramsey is a certainty.
“And now Ramsey has played his final game for Miami,” Jones wrote. “One league source said they were aware of Miami’s interest in moving Ramsey as early as the NFL Scouting Combine in February. Another source believes the Dolphins going public is an effort to gin up a market for Ramsey that just isn’t there right now. Teams like the Falcons and Raiders should have some level of interest if the price is right.”
The Falcons are an obvious landing spot for a few reasons. Most importantly, they have glaring needs in the secondary. Atlanta did bring back Mike Hughes on a three-year deal, but their situation at cornerback outside of A.J. Terrell is shoddy at best. Adding Ramsey would alleviate those concerns, and his potential move to safety as he gets older could also interest the Falcons, who don’t have a long-term answer at the position next to Jessie Bates III.
Jalen Ramsey and Raheem Morris also have a relationship dating back to their days with the Rams, winning a Super Bowl in Los Angeles. Among all the people that came out in support of the Falcons hiring Morris to be their head coach, Ramsey was the most outspoken, saying he’d love to have the opportunity to play for him again.
The Dolphins would have to eat some of the money on Jalen Ramsey’s contract to facilitate a trade with the Falcons, but that’s something that is expected to happen, no matter where he is moved.
“The three-time first-team All-Pro cornerback is entering his age-31 season and due $21.1 million in guaranteed money for 2025,” Jones continued. “The Dolphins are prepared to take on the $29.2 million cap hit to trade Ramsey next week (or before June 1), but sources say teams are balking at being on the hook for all of Ramsey’s 2025 salary.
“It seems if Miami wants to get a deal done during the draft weekend, the Dolphins will need to pay some of Ramsey’s salary as well to facilitate the trade.”
