With the NFL playoff format now including three wild cards in each conference, it’s possible for all four teams in a division to qualify for the postseason. The members of the AFC North could actually make that a reality since all of them have winning records and just two games separate first and last place.
As the 7-3 Ravens and 5-4 Bengals prepare to square off in Baltimore on Thursday night, a new participant in the rivalry gets our backing for top prop:
The bet: Over 47½ rushing and receiving yards for Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell (FanDuel)
A 5-foot-9 speedster, Mitchell totaled more than 3,000 yards from scrimmage and scored 25 touchdowns over his last two seasons at East Carolina. He made Baltimore’s 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent, but a shoulder injury landed him on IR and delayed his debut.
After his only offensive touch for the first two months was a 9-yard reception, Mitchell exploded in a Week 9 win over the Seahawks, rushing for 138 yards on just nine carries. One of them went for a 40-yard touchdown, and he scored again last week while posting 66 combined yards.
Although Gus Edwards has been the primary rusher since J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles in the opener, Mitchell is earning more work by averaging better than 14 yards per carry. Justice Hill operated as the third-down back when these teams met in September, but that role now belongs to Mitchell. He hauled in a 32-yard pass in Sunday’s loss to the Browns and nearly had a 19-yard TD catch on a wheel route.
Just as namesake actor Michael gained fame by working the Night Shift, this Keaton will be a household name after his first prime-time game.
