No Puka, No Problem: Davante Adams Answers The Call

“Well, I don’t know if it was vintage,” Adams said. “I just think, based on the way this thing goes, based on the team we have, it doesn’t call for me to have a Herculean performance every week. But at the end of the day, I think the world knows what we’re capable of as a team. And obviously, I know what I’m capable of as a player. Just staying true to what I do and trying to ring it out and get as much as I can out of this thing.

“Sometimes you get in that flow state, and we got grooving as an offense today, and Matthew did what he had to do to get us going. They gave him a lot of time to manipulate the defense and do what he had to do behind the line, and I just did my part.”

While Stafford was far better than he’d been in the opener, completing 22 of 31 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns, fans finally got a glimpse of the improved chemistry between Stafford and Adams that had been on display during camp and joint practices.

The Rams reminded the world why they received so much hype entering the season as Super Bowl favorites, while Adams took advantage of the opportunity to show he’s still capable of being a No. 1 receiver, one whose name should be talked about more when it comes to this star-studded Super Bowl-or-bust roster.

“He’s an elite player,” Stafford said. “He made all sorts of plays today. He made contested catches, ran great routes and got open. He did it all for us. He’s a guy that can do that. We understand it, we know it, and we leaned on him big time tonight.”
