Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have high expectations going into the 2026-27 season, and for good reason. They're "America's Team," and not making it to the playoffs, again, wasn't representative of what this franchise can do.
The Cowboys made a variety of solid moves during the 2026 NFL Draft, including drafting UFC edge-rusher Malachi Lawrence in the first round.
But there's a reason Jones and the Cowboys were so serious about landing Maxx Crosby during the offseason. They need veteran help in the edge-rusher position, and even though Lawrence was a fantastic pick, he's not a vet.
Lucky for Mr. Jones, there's still a seasoned edge-rusher available in free agency. Adding this player could absolutely take the Cowboys to the next level.
ESPN's Matt Bowen took a look at the best available free agents in the NFL at this point in the offseason on Monday.
One of those players is edge-rusher Haason Reddick, 31, from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"Reddick had 2.5 sacks and 23 pressures for the Bucs last season," Bowen wrote. "With 61.5 career sacks, he could draw interest from teams that like to scheme their pass rushers out of loaded fronts."
Reddick is no Crosby, but at 31, he brings a solid, seasoned presence to the Cowboys' edge-rusher room. That's exactly what this team needs. He could also serve as a mentor for budding talent on the Cowboys' squad. What makes this deal even sweeter than the Crosby option is the obvious reality that Dallas wouldn't need to trade anything for him. Reddick is simply available, so he'd be an easy sign.
The Cowboys are strong with or without Reddick, but this move could really enhance the team's defense going into 2026.
