Packers Family Night is Wrapped Up, Now What?!

The Packers offense didn’t look too bad overall, especially the first team offense to begin practice. Love was able to make several deep connections to his wideouts, including a 52-yarder for a touchdown to Matthew Golden. Golden has been having an amazing camp so far and he continued that into Family Night.

The same thing can almost be said about Christian Watson, who also has been having a great camp so far. Watson missed all of training camp last season so it has been nice to see him being able to practice and make plays for Jordan Love and this offense. The only real knock on Watson from Family Night was that he did drop a pass that he should have got over the middle of the field. It might have been a little high, but he had his hands on it.

Isaiah Neyor continues to blossom before our eyes. The young wide receiver continues to stack success, as Matt LaFleur would say. Family Night was no different for Neyor as he continued to make acrobatic catches.

Offensive Line

The offensive line is hoping to be much improved this season in comparison to last but the Packers have yet to play their theoretically best five yet. At Family Night, the first lineup started with Jordan Morgan at left tackle, Jager Burton at left guard, Sean Rhyan at center, Jacob Monk at right guard, and Anthony Belton at Right Tackle. Zach Bako-Bewele (formerly Tom) and Aaron Banks are still not doing team drills while they work their way back from injuries. This has honestly been pretty great allowing for Jager Burton and Jacob Monk to get camp reps with the first team offense. This also allows Anthony Belton to continue to be versatile on the line.

The largest knock for the offense at Family Night is the lack of a run game. The offense tried to establish all night long but wasn’t very successful.

Packers Defense

The defense continues to look ahead of the offense. This is pretty typical for NFL teams. By the end of camp, the offense normally catches back up. Lukas Van Ness and Barryn Sorrell continue to start out on edge while Micah Parsons continues rehabbing his way back from his knee injury. Both LVN and Sorrell have impressed thus far in camp and continue to grow. Those two, and the other young edge defenders, are going to be very important to begin the regular season.

On the interior of the defensive line, Warren Brinson has been playing very well while Javon Hargrave and Devonte Wyatt deal with their injuries. Another defensive linemen who continues to make play after play is Anthony Campbell. The 2025 undrafted free agent out of Miami spent last year with the Seahawks and was then picked up by the Packers back in January. Campbell, all camp long, has made play after play with his pressure and with his batted passes. Family Night was no exception. He batted down another pass!

Brandon Cisse looked very good in one-on-ones and played the ball very well against Christian Watson several times. He did get a little banged up before the end of the night, but it seems to have been just some cramps.

Overall, the defense has looked very impressive. Or has the offense just looked bad? I hope it’s because the defense has just been impressive!

Family Night Extras!

The Packers worked extensively on kick offs and punt coverages which was nice to see! Here’s to hoping that Cam Achord is going to be an improvement over the past several special teams coordinators.

Trey Smack had a good night, other than for one miss. Color me an optimist, but that is an improvement. Plus, I don’t want to read to much into kick misses. Looking at last year’s Family Night article, I wrote this, “Brandon McManus went 6/6 at Family Night improving to 34/35. Man, it just feels so good to not have to stress about field goals.” So, I just want to see improvement and hope come the regular season, Smack starts smacking the balls through the uprights.

Preseason football is finally here! Oh-and the Packers play Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers this week? And it sounds like Rodgers will play? Interesting. I just don’t want to see any injuries and see growth among the young guys!
