The Green Bay Packers have found their replacement for Malik Willis.

The Packers are signing veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor as Jordan Love’s backup, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Taylor is a safe choice for the Packers, who needed to find a replacement after Willis got a big contract with the Miami Dolphins. The 36-year-old has ample experience in the NFL, having started 62 games over the course of his career. That includes six appearances and four starts last season for the New York Jets.

Taylor has a 29-31-1 career record as a starter. He can essentially hold down the fort in a pinch, which is precisely the sort of thing the Packers are looking for.

There had been rumors earlier in the offseason that the Packers might look toward one very interesting name as Love’s backup. Instead, they have opted for a safer, more experienced choice, perhaps prioritizing reliability over skill.
