Packers RB Josh Jacobs charged with two misdemeanors

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested on May 26 after an alleged domestic abuse incident and booked on five charges, including one felony. The 28-year-old is now facing reduced charges of misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property, Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reports.

Jacobs initially faced charges of felony strangulation and suffocation and four misdemeanors: battery/domestic abuse, criminal damage to property/domestic abuse, disorderly conduct/domestic abuse, and intimidation of a victim. He was released from jail on May 27. At the time, the Brown County (Wis.) District Attorney’s Office announced it was “not yet prepared to make a formal charging decision” and indicated it would continue its investigation.

Three months later, charges officially came down on Thursday. Each charge against Jacobs comes with a maximum fine of $10K or a max of nine months in prison. If Jacobs is convicted of both charges, he would face up to $20K in fines and 18 months in prison.

Reacting to the charges Jacobs’ attorneys, David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld and Clarence F. Duchac III, stated, via Pelissero: 

“The Brown County District Attorney has reviewed evidence and elected to file misdemeanor charges against Josh that do not include domestic violence. The allegations will be addressed in court, and not in the media. Mr. Jacobs respects the District Attorney’s office and the process it followed.”
