Rob Demovsky reports that the Packers are planning to sign DT Mazi Smith to their practice squad on Monday.
The Packers hosted Smith for a tryout earlier in the day.
Green Bay will need to make a corresponding roster move, as this will put them over the limit:
Smith, 25, was a two-year starter at Michigan and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2022 and was an honorable mention for All-Big Ten as a junior.
He was selected 26th overall by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. He was in the third year of a four-year, $13,274,694 rookie contract when the Cowboys traded him to the Jets.
The Jets declined to exercise Smith’s fifth-year option for 2027, then waived him coming out of training camp. He caught on with the Dolphins practice squad buy was released last week.
In 2025, Smith appeared in five games for the Cowboys and three games for the Jets, recording three total tackles.
