The controversial Rashee Rice car crash case received a millionaire update on Thursday. The one-time Super Bowl champion was under the spotlight after causing a six-vehicle crash in Dallas in 2024.
Rice was sentenced to 30 days in prison and five years of probation after being filmed fleeing the scene. He pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges. In total, Rice faced three lawsuits totalling $10 million before Kathryn Kuykendall took legal action.
Theodore Knox, one of Rice’s college teammates, received his punishment. He didn’t attend the hearing and had no attorney listed for him in court records, according to ESPN.
On Wednesday, Texas judge Kim Bailey Phipps ordered Knox to play $2.88 million to Kuykendall. The judge labeled him as “grossly negligent” after they went street racing on a central highway two years ago.
Phipps granted Kuykendall the big amount for punitive damages plus costs for medical expenses, lost earnings, and non-economic damages.
The NFL suspended Rice for six games ahead of the 2025 season. At the turn of the year, his ex-girlfriend accused him of assaulting her for many years. The NFL concluded that the player did not “engage in conduct that violates the personal conduct policy.”
